He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth May and Lloyd May; and his wife Ruby Pritchard May. He is survived by: his children, Robert W. May (Cherie) and Becky M. Hurst (Kevin Hurst); and his grandchildren, Ryan May, Miranda May, Marissa May, Mikayla Mills, Kailey Hurst and Hunter Hurst.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children.
