She was predeceased by: her husband Edward Lee Barnes; and her sons-in-law, Melvin Speaks and Leon Smith. She is survived by: her daughters, Barbara Edmonds of Hopewell, VA, Mildred Speaks (late Melvin Speaks) of Newark, NJ, Cynthia Smith (late Leon Smith) of Richmond, VA, Deborah Edwards of Waverly, VA and Thelma Kabir (Charles) of Newark, NJ; her grandchildren, Chemae Williams (Marcus), Monique Wilson, Sheree Edwards, Joseph Carter, Tameika Edmonds, Maurice Carter, Vanessa Carter, Teneshia Edmonds, Shana Mitchell, Erik Mitchell, Veronica Carter, Deanna Speaks and Quashaun Newsome; her goddaughter Terry Smith; and her great great grandchildren, Savannah Braddy and Logan Moses. She is also survived by thirty great-grandchildren.
