He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Goss Underwood; his children, Teresa Higgins (James) of Whitewood, VA and Jamie Allen Underwood (Alisa) of Selma, NC; his siblings, Juanita Swartz of Whitewood, VA, Lenora Allen of Richlands, VA and Ben Underwood of Richmond, VA.; and his grandson Samuel James Higgins. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
