He was predeceased by : his parents, Vernon McWhirter and Hazel McWhirter; and his former life partner Edith Campbell of Union County, TN. He is survived by : his wife Mary B. McWhirter (Thompson) of Issaquah, WA; his sister Louise McWhirter of Alta Dena, CA.; his children, Dennis McWhirter of Indianapolis, IN, Kevin McWhirter (Kim Rudolph) and Marrianne Hughes (Larry) of New Castle, IN.; and his grandchildren, Devin, Trevor McWhirter, Ryan, Jena and Sam McWhirter.

Memorials should be given to the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery.
