He was predeceased by: his parents, Violet Howell (Grandy) and Samuel Howell; his wife Jean Carol Howell (Carson); his children, Wendell Howell, Jr., Michael James Howell, Dale Jeffery Howell and Carol Jean Hampton (Howell); and his siblings, Elmer J. Howell and Jeanne Howell.
He is survived by: his sister Marge Shambeau of Waupaca, Wisconsin; and his children, Violet Irminger, Laura Lee Boncada, Salt and Steve Howell. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.
