He is survived by: his close friend Jean Klotzbuecher; his wife Jean; his daughter Amy Bergman-Valla (Justin); his sister Sally Mathewson; his grandsons, Samuel Valla and Emmett Valla; his brother-in-law Dewey Mathewson; and also Bill Heiges. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, as well as multiple caring relatives and great friends.
