He is survived by : his mother Martha Blauert Bartel; his wife Rosemary "Rosie" Schad; his daughter Rosie; his grandchildren, Lac, Fond, Michele Lyons, Richard Bartel (Glecy) and Christopher Bartel (Michelle); his siblings, Robert Bartel, Jeanne Anderson (Jeff) and Paul Bartel (Paula); his brothers-in-law, Wilfred Schad (Donna), Ronald Schad (Jean) and Todd Schad (Lori); and his goddaughter Gwen Schad.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
