He was predeceased by: his parents, Ellen Quale (Joyce) and Charles Quale; his wife Grace Wheeler; his daughter Beverly Jean Becker; his daughter-in-law Roberta Quale; his siblings, Evelyn Larson, Geraldine Running, Ellen Harsh, Charles, Alvin and Douglas Quale; his parents-in-law, Louise Quale, Dorothy Quale, Selmer Larson and Melvin Sanders; his niece Sharon Bautch; his nephew Wayne Harsh; and his great grandchild Paige.
He is survived by: his children, Merle Jr. (Marge Rice) of Merrill and Cheryl Nantz (Olen) of Chippewa Falls; his son-in-law Robert Becker of Eau Claire; his sister Dorothy Sanders of Menomonie; and his sister-in-law Marion Quale of Crown Point, IN. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
