He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Sr. and Edith Hiemstra (Ferwerda); and his siblings, Ann, Jaap, Klaas, John and Dick.
He is survived by: his spouse Elizabeth Friesema; his children, Gary Hiemstra (Sally) of Lynden, WA, Elaine Vegter (Rick) of Sharon, Gene Hiemstra (Cindy) of Monmouth, OR, Sue Olson (Doug) of Delavan, Janet Vermeer (Mike) of Pella, IA and John Hiemstra (Deann) of Lynden, WA; and his sister Grace Feddema of Lynden, WA.. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.
