He was predeceased by: his parents, Nencel Nelson and Elizabeth Nelson (Matteson); his daughter Karen Nelson; his siblings, Delmar Nelson (Irene), Howard Nelson, Russell Nelson (Fran), Claude Nelson and Ellen Wold (Gennes); and his brother-in-law Ole Gable.
He is survived by: his wife Jean of Hudson, WI; his children, Robert Nelson (Kathy) of Lakeville, MN, Betty Wendorff (Dale) of Hudson, WI, Jeffrey Nelson (Jeanette) of Fairmont, MN and Timothy Nelson (Cindy) of Hudson, WI; his grandchildren, Corey Nelson, Justin Nelson, Carl Wendorff, Jesse Prochniak, Jason Prochniak, Katie Atkinson, Bobbi Reese, Laura Lemke, Kelley Nelson and Renée Nelson; his great grandchildren, Brooklyn Prochniak, Bryer Prochniak and CJ Nelson; his sister Cleone Gable; and his sisters-in-law, Doris Nelson and JoAnn Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Lakeview Hospice and the Leukemia Foundation.
