He was predeceased by: his mother Sophia Kauss; and his brother David Schmeiser. He is survived by: his wife Carole Ann Radl of Patrick's Catholic Church; his children, Del Kauss (Linda) of St. Paul, MN, Kathi Braun (Dan) of Janesville and Don Kauss of Loganville; his grandchildren, Kyle, John (Marissa), Caleb, Alison (Kebu), Joshua (Jen), Matthew (Theresa), Taylor (Erin), Bodhi, Rowan and Michael; and his siblings, Joan Kovatch, Carla Schmeiser-Bauer, Gordon Schmeiser and Al Schmeiser (Judy). He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 14th 2025 at 5:30 PM at the Bring the Funeral Home (1700 N Washington St, Janesville, WI 53548).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Janesville Youth Baseball.

“I was blessed to call Jim my friend. We shared a love of motorcycles. I took him for a ride on 10/29/25 to his friend, Cabbys. We laughed the whole time. I was honored when he gave me his Harley Jean jacket. His joke was that he was going to give me a "reach around" this is biker term. He was nothing but a gentleman that day 😊 it was my pleasure to give you a ride, Jim. I will miss your whit, jokes and your smile. God bless you and your family”
