He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Schmidt and Margaret Schmidt (Wanke); his wives, Carol Schmidt and LaVerne Schmidt; his children, Mary, James and John; his sons-in-law, Joe Kaufman and Dan Bongers; his parents-in-law, Walter and Dory Zornow (Jansen); his siblings, Arthur Schmidt (Gladys), William Schmidt and Margaret Mentzer; and his siblings-in-law, Ignatius Lenz, Frank Austin, Jack Zornow (Margaret), Bill Zornow (Maggie), Phyllis Nelson, June Verhagen (Mike) and Arlene Bobber (Ray).
He is survived by: his former wife Carol "Tweet" Zornow; his grandchildren, Albert and Wallie; his children, Jane Kaufman, Julie Bongers, Albert Schmidt (Shirley) and Walter Schmidt (Amy Hansen); his stepchildren, Lynn Zimpelmann (Jerry), Patty Drechsler (Vern), Cheri Brown (Perry), Lorrie Schneider (Jerry) and Leah Leddy (Lee Auerbach); his grandchildren, Paul Kaufman, John Kaufman (Tara), Jacquelyn Sharkey (Michael), Michael Bongers (Michelle), Gregory Bongers (Laurie), Maria Gauthier (Kyle), Christopher Schmidt (Jena), Charlie Schmidt Hansen, Samuel Schmidt Hansen and Leo Schmidt Hansen; his stepgrandchildren, Matthew Zimpelmann (Gina), Adam Zimpelmann (Lindsay), Jonathan Zimpelmann (Andrea), Heidi Krause (Brad), Greta Wagner (Jake), Leddy Luebke (Kevin), Lane Pritzl (Ben), Lydia Pivonka (Casey), Liam Brown (Raquel), Ryan Brown (Hannah), Natalie Schubbe (Jon), Maria Hartzheim (Luke) and Andrea Kohne (Mike); his sisters, Helen Lenz, Mary Ann Austin, Eleanor Hietpas (Marvin) and Florence McKenna (Mike); and his siblings-in-law, Edward Mentzer, Barbara Schmidt and Marian Van Groll. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
