He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Mathison and Arlette Mathison (Nelson); his great-aunt Sylvina Nelson (Toots); and his former wife Sandra Ann Bredeson. He is survived by: his children, Wendy Jones (Jay), Michael Mathison (Tracy), Peggy Mathison and Krissy Carney (Joe); his grandchildren, Christopher (Chloe), Jayson, Dalton, Payton (Colton), Noah, Joey and Jacob; his great grandchild Aiden; his siblings, Rev. Ronald Mathison, David Mathison (Joan), Sharon Barnett, Nancy Taylor (Jay) and Barbara Erickson (Dennis); his grandchildren, Emma, Nelson, Rex, Josie, Luna, Shadow and Fannie; and his pet Ben. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid, a "Celebration of Life" gathering and Inurnment will be held in the spring.
