Stephen S. French Obituary
Of Mequon passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the age of 81 years. Steve was predeceased by his beloved wife Marcia (Nee Spooner) French, brother John French and parents H.S. "Skip" and Bette (nee Edwards) French. He is survived by siblings Mary Sue Pleune (Denver, CO), Michael "Mick" French (Cannon Beach, OR) and nephews Ryan, Kyle, Tim and Will. Steve had a great impact for the past 10 years on a young friend, Henry Moll, whom he met in a local restaurant. Even with an age difference of 63 years they have been great friends since Steve asked the question 'Do you like cars?'.
Steve attended St Monica's grade school in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Whitefish Bay High School lettering in football and swimming. He then got his business degree from the University of Miami-Ohio.
He has been a lifelong resident of Milwaukee and Mequon. Steve had a great impact on the community with his long term involvement with the Mequon-Thiensville Optimist Club and the Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation. He was also active in the Mequon-Thiensville Historical Society and the Milwaukee Curling Club. Steve worked in a wide range of occupations including the Federal Reserve and selling school textbooks. He met his calling during his retirement when he worked as a caregiver helping aging adults with daily activities allowing them to stay in their homes. He maintained long-term relationships with some of his clients as well as their families. If you were part of Steve's daily emails your inbox was filled with jokes and thoughtful messages sometimes signed with a cute 'Steve French Toast'!
Steve loved his cars, from British Sports cars to US muscle cars, motorcycles and his beloved Polaris Slingshot. Memorials to any of the organizations Steve was involved in above or Independence First, the Hunger Task Force, Habitat for Humanity or the Mequon Nature Preserve would be appreciated as these were all important charitable organizations to Steve.
No services will be held at this time, but due to his involvement in the community a future celebration of life may be held. If interested in attending and to receive any planned information please email or text Dawn Moll at [email protected] or 414-507-8212.
