Floyd J. Devore Sr. Obituary
Floyd went to the Lord on July 13, 2025. Loving husband of the late Shirley. Loving father of Melodie (Tim) Stearns, Cheryl (Todd) Weber, and Floyd Devore Jr. Loving grandpa of Jessica (Gary), Jordan, Mike, Eric, and Kyle. Loving great grandpa to Lexi, Christian, Chloe, Grayson, and Crew. He is further survived by other family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Floyd & Margaret Devore, his daughter Lisa, his four sisters and brother. In high school he was on the wrestling team. He had a 2-year machine apprenticeship and worked part-time as a lathe operator in a crankshaft manufacturing company.
After graduation he worked as a toolmaker at a company that made small appliances; toasters, roasters, etc. He was drafted in the Korean War in the Army Ordnance Division, completed basic training and small arms repair school and was assigned as a Company Armorer in White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico. After the service he worked at RCA as a lab technician making prototype transformers for television receivers, and received BS Mechanical Engineering while also working part-time as a toolmaker making tube bending fixtures.
Floyd then accepted an engineering position with General Electric Company. He dedicated 36 years to GE working in the Photoflash Division located in Bellevue, Ohio; the GE Missile and Space Department in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Spy in the sky satellite program; GE Audio Products Department in Decatur, Illinois designing tape recorders; and the GE X-Ray Department in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he was a Project Engineer for mobile x-ray imagining products. GE grew and added CT, MR, PET, Ultrasound, Nuclear imaging and Cardiac Monitoring Systems.
He assisted GE Medical Off-Shore Operations in Europe and Japan and worked with the Legal department as the engineering expert witness for liability cases involving GE Medical products. He retired in 1995 from GE and Floyd and Shirley got their realtors' licenses and worked together as realtors for Shore West Realty. They finally retired from everything in 2000. Floyd was an active member of Benediction Lutheran Church serving as chairman of board of evangelism and elders; president, vice president, secretary and counselor-at-large, and worked on the board of stewardship.
Memorials may be made to Benediction Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Benediction Lutheran Church (8475 W. Fond du Lac Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53225) from 10am until time of service at 11am, followed by a luncheon. Burial will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park (10700 West Capitol Dr., Milwaukee, WI, 53222) at 1:30pm with Military Honors (Meet at front gates for procession to the burial site).
