He was predeceased by : his parents, Hubert Schmitz and Loretta Schmitz (Baus) of Norwalk, Wisconsin.; his former life partner Mary Schmitz; his siblings, Geraldine "Toots" Gilbeck, Helen "Jenny" Muehlenkamp, Gallis "Butch" Schmitz and Eugene "Mike" Schmitz; his parents-in-law, Ray and Mae Berns; and his siblings-in-law, Jim Dunnum, Glenn Muehlenkamp, Donald Berns, Norman Berns, Betty Berns, Mary Schmitz and Carolyn Berns.
He is survived by : his wife Melissa Schmitz of Montfort, Wisconsin; his sons, Michael Schmitz (Karen) of Greeley, Patrick Schmitz (Julie) of Manchester, Mark Schmitz (Danelle) of Greeley and John Schmitz (Julie) of Manchester, Iowa; his grandchildren, MacKenzie, Alexandria, Jack, Jillian and Laura Bueno of Leon, Spain.; his stepchildren, John Winkers (Joyel Rule) of Cobb, Angela Ryan (Rob) of Mount Horeb, Jeremy Winkers (Michelle) of Fennimore and James Winkers (Kimberly) of Montfort, Wisconsin; his daughter-in-law Deb Starr-Winkers; his grandchildren, Lyndesey (Donovan), Chelsea Winkers, Chely, Javin, Aliyah Thompson, Brylie, Beckham, Boston Winkers, Berlyn Hicks, Addyson and Cyle Winkers; his great grandchild Everly Ogden; his siblings, Cletus "Pete" Schmitz of Norwalk, Wisconsin, Joyce Dunnum of Owatonna and Caroline Wavra (Donald) of La Crosse, Wisconsin; and his sisters-in-law, Betty Schmitz of Norwalk, Darlene Schmitz of Norwalk, Marilyn Kann (Jim) of Garnavillo, Jane Siegel (David) of Cedar Rapids and Jeanette Thein (Pat) of Colesburg, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
