He was predeceased by: his parents, William Schmitz and Margaret Schmitz (Cunningham); his wife Marlene; his brother Bernard; his sister-in-law Marilyn Schmitz; his niece Kathleen; his brothers, Don, Harold, Kenneth, Laverne and Bill Schmitz; and his brothers-in-law, Ralph Pittz and Stan Nicholson.
He is survived by: his children, Wanda Behling of Madison and Jay Schmitz of Middleburg, Florida; his grandchildren, Jacob Behling, Sheila Lockhart (Nick) and Jeffrey Behling (Kaitlin Nedza); his close friend Sarah Hutchinson; his siblings, John Schmitz (Mary) of Rockford and Janice Pittz; and his siblings-in-law, Larry Argall (Mary Faith), Wayne Argall (Linda), Helen of Mineral Point, Barb of Mineral Point and Marion Schmitz of Mineral Point. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and many, many good friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Joe's name to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the cancer patient support group of your choice.
