He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Kakes and Mary Kakes (Stasek); and his siblings, Evelyn Turznick, Edna Curtis, Betty Lindner, Alice Neurer, Lillian Kakes, Carol Pelman, Eugene and Melvin Kakes.
He is survived by: his spouse Ethelreda Gundrum; his children, Doreen Kakes of Antigo, Deann Shelbrack (James) of Schofield and Steven Kakes (Julie) of Austin, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Ashley Morga (Miguel), Alicia Cervenka (Jon), Janessa Cronin (Steven), Jeremiah and Joshuah Kakes; and his great grandchildren, Madison, Emilee and Abigail.
