He was predeceased by: his mother Patricia Olson Kaat; his grandparents, Edward and Marion Olson; his former wife Tamarah McLeod; his son Elijah Kaat; his uncles, Lloyd Kaat, Richard Kaat, Gerald Kaat (Kathy), Roger Kaat, Leroy Kaat (Cookie), Kenneth Kaat and Bruce Teetzen; and his aunt Beatrice Bourrett (Roger).

He is survived by: his father Gilbert, Sr. Kaat; his stepmother Michelle Kaat; his siblings, Stacy Kaat, Bruce Olson, Kari Roethel (Steven), Melissa Tock (Jeremy), Roberta Stahl (Josh), Patricia Tarnowski (Jim), Kathryn Popovich (Steven) and Charles Kee (Deanna); and his aunts, Bernie Olson, Eva Petoskey, Beverly Teetzen, Janice Kaat, Jean Kaat, Kelly Kaat, Colleen Kaat and Nelly Kaat. He is also survived by his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
