He was predeceased by: his parents, Arno Keitel and Alice Keitel (Oehler); and his brothers, Victor and Daniel Keitel. He is survived by: his wife Joan Mueller; his sons, Kal Keitel (Renee), Rod Keitel (Jenny) and Jay Keitel (Cindy); his grandchildren, Greg Keitel (Jill), Amy Wetzel (Andy), Stacy Hagerstrom (Tyler), Tim Keitel, Jeff Keitel, Kelly Keitel, Zach Keitel, Brooke Ledermann (Eric), Trent Keitel (Sarah) and Kailee Ridenour (Vince); his sister-in-law Janice Keitel; and his great grandchildren, Abby, Luke Keitel, Zoe, Jackson Hagerstrom, Nevaeh, Norah Ridenour and James Wetzel.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
