He was predeceased by : his parents, Guy Wellman and Florence Wellman (Udelhofen); and his brothers, William, Lloyd and Orville Wellman.
He is survived by : his wife Sandra Caldwell; his grandchildren, Tyler Hall (Amanda) of New York, Ryan Hall (Pa Chia Xiong) of La Crosse, Colton Hall of La Farge, Cherie Johnson (Ben) of Winona, Jordan Vinson of La Crosse, Zach Wellman of De Soto, Rachel Wellman of La Crosse, Brittany Fritz of Melbourne, Erin Fritz of Red Wing and Morgan Fritz of Red Wing; and his great grandchild Julian Audetat of Winona, Minnesota.. He is also survived by his children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Gene's name to the Upper Iowa University Alumni Foundation.
