He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Shanklin and Wilma Shanklin (Radloff); his father-in-law Alvin William Pruefer Sr.; his brother Richard Shanklin; his grandson David Curtis Shanklin; his grandparents, Frank and Ethel Radloff; and his cousins, Lowell "Pete" Shanklin, Jay DeGodt and Al Shanklin.

He is survived by: his wife Cynthia; his children, David Shanklin (Linda), Marijane Swenson (Dennis), Todd Shanklin (Tammy) and Brent Shanklin; his mother-in-law Betty Jane Pruefer; and his brothers-in-law, Donald Pruefer Sr. and Alvin Pruefer Jr.. He is also survived by several cousins and relatives.
