He was predeceased by: his parents, Mabel Helmke (Olsen) and Herbert Helmke; and his siblings, Merlin "Bud" (Gertrude), Eileen Godleski (Henry) and Grace Staffrude.
He is survived by: his wife Doris; his children, Susan, Jane (Teresa Sterns) and Karl; his grandchildren, Keegan and Grace Helmke; and his brother-in-law Ruffin Staffrude. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A luncheon will follow burial at the church.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Lutheran Church (flcstoughton.com) or the Stoughton Veterans Memorial (stoughtonveteransmemorial.org/donate).
