He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Hartl and Lucy Hartl (Luther); his siblings, Virginia Moore and Carroll Hartl; and his siblings-in-law, Elaine Morrick, Kathleen Swenson, Willard Moore, Eric Johnson and Dale Elliott.
He is survived by: his wife Virgene; his daughter Kerry Steckbauer (David) of Stoughton; his grandchildren, Travis Steckbauer (Chelsea) of Evansville, Kellie Johnson (Blake) of Seattle, WA and Bryce Steckbauer (Holly) of Watertown; his great grandchildren, Theodore and Mila Steckbauer; his sister Donna Johnson of Brodhead; and his siblings-in-law, Shirley Hartl of Waunakee, Barbara Austin of Madison and Glenn Morrick of Belleville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
