He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Zelma and Helen Zelma (Simrak); his wife Jeanette Sutherland; his son Scott Zelma; his stepfather Stephen Mihalik; and his stepsiblings, James Mihalik and Helen Skandel.
He is survived by: his children, Thomas Zelma (Amy) of Lancaster, OH and Tammy Zelma of Superior, WI; his grandchildren, Alissa Hicks-Olson of Superior, WI, Brandon Zelma (Haley) of Lancaster, OH, Katie Watkins (Noah) of Nelsonville, OH and Drew Lasko of Lancaster, OH; his great grandchildren, Brantley and Eldridge Zelma of Lancaster, OH; his sister Betty Peterson of Superior, WI; and his friend Becky. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
