He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Hammerbeck and Wilhelmina Hammerbeck; his siblings, Karl, Glen, John, Alta Moe, Elizabeth Morton Melhus and Margaret Doig; and his granddaughter Kristen Hammerbeck.
He is survived by: his wife Kathryn A. Nelson; his sons, Bruce (Susan) and Paul Hammerbeck (Marilyn); his grandchildren, Christopher Hammerbeck, Heidi Marin (Mark) and Lisa Jewson; and his great grandchildren, Eve, Cecelia, Christopher, Caroline Jewson, Isabella and Kaia Brewster.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Superior Amateur Hockey Association.
