He was predeceased by: his parents, Eino Hakala and Vienna Hakala (Luhtala); his brothers, Eddy and Ray; and his daughter Lori Laaksonen.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Schweke; his children, Brian Hakala (Dani) of Tomahawk, Keith Hakala (Mary) of Tomahawk, Fond (Lac), Lynn Hakala of Parker, CO and Vernon Hakala (Becky) of Rhinelander; and his grandchildren, Alyssa, Brandon, Zac, Jeremy, Meg, Zoe and Dom. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
