He was predeceased by : his parents, Walter Hovey and Ruth Hovey; his wife Rose Hovey; and his siblings, William Hovey, Marjorie Noll and Liz Klevgard.

He is survived by : his children, Ann Hovey, Dan Hovey, Mark Hovey and Ruth Hovey; and his grandchildren, Brooke Defoe (Patrick), Megan Day (Rich), Zachary Hovey (Gypsee) and Mallory Dovre (Lee). He is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
