He was predeceased by : his parents, George Gumz and Olga Gumz (Stauffer); his siblings, Vilas Gumz and Eleanor Sazama; and his brothers-in-law, Bud O'Shasky and Gene Bier.

He is survived by : his wife Jacqueline Hinz; his children, Kevin Gumz, Christopher Gumz (Erin) and Melissa Waltman (John P. Waltman Jr); his grandchildren, Alexander Gumz (Julianna), Benjamin Gumz (Karli), Andrew Jones, John P. Waltman III, Jacob Waltman, Madison Waltman and Makenzie Waltman; and his siblings, Janet O'Shasky, Norman Gumz (Kathy), Delores Bier, Lloyd Gumz, Alvin Gumz (Mary Lou), Evelyn Gumz and Ellen Bates (Matthew).

A celebration of life was held on Friday, April 19th 2024 at 5:00 PM at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home (2201 Chestnut St, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494).
