He was predeceased by: his parent William Richard Bass Sr.; and his stepfather Dwight Ossman. He is survived by: his parent Hilda Mae Ossman (Mozingo); his wife Brenda Bass (Leonard) of Beech Bottom, WV; his daughter Hilda Mae Bass of Wintersville, OH; and his siblings, Teddy L. Hart, Michael Hart, Dianna Aracich (Tim) of Wellsburg, WV, Sheila Selmon of Follansbee, WV and Tillie Ossman of Wellsburg, WV. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
