He was predeceased by: his parents, Nelson Chewning and Julia Thomason Chewning Cutright; his wife Carolyn Ann Riley; his son Jeff Chewning; and his grandson Eric Terry.
He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Terry of Elkins and Kim Ross (Bill) of Jimtown; his siblings, Regina "Tiddles" Chewning, Susie Whitehead of Georgia, Spider Chewning of Inwood and Mike Cutright of South Carolina; his grandchildren, Melissa, Michelle, Alec, Drew, Justin and Tayler; his great grandchildren, Braydan, Jace, Domanick, Kaleb, Kaitlin and Addysin; and his nephew Jerry McCauley (Ann) of Georgia.
