He was predeceased by : his parents, William Ervin and Alma Reed Ayers; his son Lewis Ayers; and his siblings, James Ayers and Dorothy Ann Cuneo.

He is survived by : his wife Mary Ayers; his stepdaughters, Amber Miller and Stephanie Letts; his stepgrandchildren, Dustin Letts Jr., Jadyn Turner and Stephan Lee; and his brother Jerry Ayers.
