She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Clyde and Alma Hodges Billups; her siblings, Harry, Jennings, Buell Billups and Clara Gibson; and her husband Paul Edwin Ellis.

An International Reading Foundation Workshop in 1974 saw her back and three years later the group met in Miami, Florida.
