He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Edward Merchant and Ollie Mae Smith Merchant; and his son Trampas Blackford. He is survived by: his wife Mary Alice McPhearson; his sons, Jerry Merchant of New Smyrna, FL and David Merchant of Cheraw, SC; and his sister Loretta Leatherman of Floydada, TX.
