He is survived by: his grandson Richard Douglas Vandegrift, II; his daughter-in-law Kathy Hutchins-Vandegrift; his stepgranddaughter Brandy Shrader; and his sibling's children, Darlene Carter and Paul Vandegrift, Jr..
