He is survived by : his wife Emma Nelson; his sister Maureen Sawyer; his children, Emma Nelson, Dennis Nelson (Jennifer), Micah Nelson, Jared Nelson and Christopher Wixom; his grandchildren, Serina Nelson, Dylan, Katya Nelson, Emma Nelson, Eve Nelson, Dennis Nelson and Brigham Nelson; and his great grandchild Ilithia Nelson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins.

A memorial service was held on Monday, May 20th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (1480 Butte House Rd, Yuba City, CA 95993). A graveside service was held on Monday, May 20th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Sutter Cemetery (7200 Butte Ave, Sutter, CA 95982).
