With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Charles D. Sumares of Springfield, Massachusetts, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 6, 2024 at the age of 70. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles Goncalves Sumares and Eleanor Sumares (Grasso). He is survived by : his wife Mary E. Sumares (Minahan); his stepdaughters, Kimberley Flaherty (Michael) of West Hartford, Kerry Flores of Westfield and Kelly Broyles (Jeffrey) of South Hadley; his stepgrandchildren, Katherine Flaherty, Kiley Flaherty, Cory Cardinale, Emma Broyles, Bridget Broyles and Bailee Broyles; his stepgreat-grandson John Bresnahan; his siblings, Penny Knowles of Florida, George Hristopoulos (Barbara) of Florida and Charlene Tranghese (Joseph) of Wilbraham; his brothers-in-law, John Minahan (Nancy) of Taunton and Edward Minahan (Allyson) of Plymouth; and his pet Blackjack. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 14th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels (7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 15th 2024 at 8:15 AM at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels (7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, May 15th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church (395 Chestnut St, Springfield, MA 01104).

His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
