He was predeceased by : his parents, Isaac McPherson and Flaudia Marie Cartrette McPherson; and his siblings, Lynwood McPherson, Donna Kay McPherson, Vicki McPherson, Bobby McPherson, Sharon Cartrette and Charles McPherson.

He is survived by : his wife Irma Joyce Cartrette McPherson; his children, Hugh Thomas McPherson, II (Renee) of Whiteville and Jennifer McPherson Hatcher (James) of Whiteville; his sisters, Joanne Simmons of Whiteville and Cindy Fowler (Greg) of Tabor City; his grandchildren, Brandon Hacher, Kevin Hatcher, Hunter McPherson, Jeremy Hatcher, Hannah McPherson, Josh McPherson, Courtney Engle and Douglas Engle; and his great grandchildren, Kennedy McPherson, Maddox Hatcher and Emma Leigh Hatcher.
