We announce the death of Christel Schmidt in Nelson, British Columbia, who passed away on July 17, 2026, at the age of 90. Christel will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Richard (Emma Kluck) and Christel; her siblings, Elka and Peter; her daughters, Heidi, Petra and Sabine; her granddaughter Cassandra; and her great grandchild Alexis.
She is survived by: her brothers, Werner, Gunter and Gerhart; her former husband Helmut Taschner; her husband Heinz Schmidt; her grandchildren, Bianka (Dylan), Darshan (Rachel) and Medina; and her great grandchildren, Callum, Lylah, Kaidance and Evalynn.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant flowers in your garden, pet a cat, or hug someone you care about, as these were among Christel's favourite simple joys in life.
