He was predeceased by : his parents, Melbourne Buchanan and Mary Ann Buchanan (McFarlane); his wife Doris Pagett (Pagett); his siblings, Milton (Viola) and Sadie Gamble (George); and his brothers-in-law, Joseph Doherty, Ernest Pagett and Clifford Floyd.

He is survived by : his children, Brian Buchanan (Kathy) of Sussex, Bruce Buchanan (Michelle) of Quispamsis, Britta Belliveau (Dennis) of Fredericton and Bradley Buchanan (Vicki) of Sussex; his grandchildren, Jamie Roy (Paul), Mark (Karissa), Evan (Sydney), Brandon (Katie), Aidan, Cullen, Nathan, Lauren and Miriam; his great grandchildren, Elisa and Xavier; and his sisters-in-law, Joan Doherty of Apohaqui and Carol Floyd of Apohaqui. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
