He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert H and Elvira; his brother Bob; his son Billy Mewhinney; and his brothers-in-law, Ernie Seaman, Doug Harron, Gary Harron and Wayne Harron.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Mewhinney; his daughters, Cathy, Janice and Heather (Marcus Mielke); his grandchildren, Trevor (Kayla), Mitchell, Mackenzie (Matt), Kendall (Kevin), Hannah, Nathan, Ryan, Jay, Ben, Mya and Paw; his pets, Wagner, Oliver and Mickey; his siblings, Carol Seaman, Lorne Mewhinney (Nita) and Marlene Masterson (Bob); and his siblings-in-law, Kim Mewhinney, Lillian Harron, Yvonne Harron and Gwen Harron. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
