She was predeceased by : her former life partner James; and her daughter Rachel. She is survived by : her husband Rainer Helm; her sister Brigitte (Rosemarie); her daughters, Brigitte (Roger) and Kathleen; her grandchildren, James (Dani), Cassandra (Chris), Emily, Charles, Henry, Eli and Phineas; and her stepchildren, Angela (Bryan) and Kurtis (Julie).

Donations in Barbel's name may be made to support her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Hospital.
