He was predeceased by: his parents, Upton Dawson and Helen Dawson. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis; his children, Jon S. Dawson (Cindy) and Donyel Niehues (Jim); his grandchildren, Jen Cardelus (Arturo), Christine Williams (Ben), Jim Niehues, John Niehues (Ann) and Lara Vargas (Nick); his great grandchildren, Grace, William Cardelus, Rosalie Williams, Eleanor and Robert Niehues; his brother-in-law Stan Ditus; and his niece Shelley Biegel (David, family: Molly Willis, Hannah Lippett, Dave Biegel, Nancy Biegel, Sophie Biegel, Aimee Willis, Hazel Willis).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which honors military and first responders.
