“I worked with Bert at the FAA Kenai Flight Service Station. He was a very sweet and kind man. Bert and I use to talk about his mother and her life. One day we had a interesting conversation about the Netherlands where her people came from and their journey to the Pacific region. He shared stories of her time as a POW in a Japanese camp. My heart aches for his family. I can only imagine losing Bert’s mother and then a month later losing Bert.”

Spare time we built computers, participated in LAN Party gaming... Bertman was always down for tech fun. He still enjoyed his home made sawmill, cutting his own lumber and building. Indoors and out he love Alaska and the FSS Family. Time flew by too fast. He was a genius, gentle... giant-hearted man. We'll miss you Bertman.”
