Roger Hughes Obituary

With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Roger Hughes of Palmer, Alaska, born in Charleston, South Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 23, 2026 at the age of 76. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lanneau and Clara Estelle Hughes (Sandifer); his sisters, Betty Hill (Hughes) and Paula Hudson (Hughes); his niece Veronica Carver; and his nephew David Carver.

He is survived by: his wife Shelley Steiner Hughes; his children, Peter Hughes (Amy) of Cabot, Tyler Hughes (Kayla) of Wasilla, Alaska, Clara Sanderson (Samuel) of Parrish and Emily Cox (Nathan) of Post Falls, Idaho; his grandchildren, Kyler, Zamarion, Noah, Owen, Amari Hughes, Keithan, Caden, Avelyn Sanderson, Bode, Cooper Cox, Margot and Roy Hughes; and his sister Jenny Carver (Hughes). He is also survived by seven nieces and seven nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alaska Healing Hearts, Alaska Correctional Ministries, or Alaska Medical Missions.
