He is survived by: his wife Mary Hazel; his children, Karen Avery (David), Dendy Messick (Marti) and Mark Messick (Heather); his grandchildren, Kyle Avery, Maddy Messick, Elyssa Messick, Natalie Messick, Victoria Messick and Mary Messick; and his sisters, Lucy Heller of St. Augustine and Jane Murphy of Abbeville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
