He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Groff and Clarice Morgan; his sister Anita Ziegler; his niece Pheonix Ziegler; and his brother Jay Groff.

He is survived by: his wife Sandra Groff; his daughters, Judy Byrd (Gary), Kristi Groff, Tabatha Smith and Hope Stobert; his grandchildren, Jarrett Groff, Reagan Davenport, Gage Tanner, Alyssah Tanner, Lilly Whitfield and Brantley Tanner; and his nephews, David "Bubba" Groff, Steven Parker, Jason Parker and Norman Ziegler.
