He was predeceased by: his parents, William Abb Thompson and Zula Thompson; his siblings, Joel, Duel of Elmer, L. V., Winford, Malvin, Braxton, Oscar Thompson, Verda McDaniel, Willie Merle Thompson, Jeanette Howard, Mary Vinson and Margaret Jones; and his wife Brenda Thompson.

He is survived by: his children, Jonathan Thompson, Tracey Jones, Scott Carlisle (Rhonda) and LeAnne Dunham (Greg); his grandchildren, Brandon Gilliland (Krista), Megan Carlisle, Brittanye Burkhalter (Justin), Heather Fuller (Rob), Erica McGhee, Jason Carlisle (Lori), Hayley Clayton, Caleb Jones, Ryan Bearden (Breanna), Alex Bearden, Katie Jones and Kaylee Carlisle; his sister-in-law Martha Thompson; and his caregiver Lana Sharpe.
