With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Emory Jay Morton Sr. of Altoona, Alabama, who passed away on July 12, 2025 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
In the hush of twilight, as the stars twinkle in silent homage, we reflect on the legacy Emory Jay leaves behind and his impact on the lives of his loved ones. Though Emory Jay may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the memories held dear by his family and friends, a guiding light that illuminates their paths in times of darkness.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John Herman Morton and Naomi Grace Jones; his daughter Joan Mechelle Brown; and his siblings, Mary Ruth Marshall, Herman Gaither Morton and Gurley Gene Morton.
He is survived by: his wife Edna Holt Morton; his children, Lynne Poore and Emory Jay Morton, Jr. (Celia); and his son-in-law David Brown. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Lemley Funeral Chapel (6878 2nd Ave W, Oneonta, AL 35121). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 17th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
