He was predeceased by: his wife Janett Laird Self; his parents, Ragan Pascal and Lennie Grubbs Self; and his siblings, Vernard Self, Bryan G Self and Martha Self Wiggins.

He is survived by: his children, Lisa Self Jones (William) and Ross Laird Self (Nancy); his grandchildren, Emily Self Funcik (Robert), William Ross Jones and Joshua Michael Jones; and his great grandchildren, Caleb Robert Funcik and Joshua Rivers Funcik. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
